  14. Syntax: PhIndex [filespec] [/n] (min word length)
  15.  
  16. An "index" of a written work is a list of items including the
  17. location where each  item may be found in  that work. PhIndex
  18. processes  text files  into word  lists that  can be  edited,
  19. sorted and cleaned up to produce thorough indexes.
  20.  
  21. *  Reads  an  ASCII  text  file,  ignores  most  punctuation,
  22. digits,  trivial  "noise"  words  and  words  shorter  than a
  23. specified minimum,  then writes output to  another disk file,
  24. one word per line, with page number.
  25.  
  26. *  Minimum  word length  defaults to  3 characters; alternate
  27. value of 1 through 20 can be specified.
  28.  
  29. *  Output  is  unsorted,  so  it  can  be  edited  to combine
  30. contiguous  words  into  index  phrases/concepts,  and to add
  31. synonyms.  If  a  paragraph-  or  section-numbered  index  is
  32. needed, page numbers can be converted to paragraph or section
  33. numbers.
